Working together with communities to end poverty
VSC – Cameroon aims at co-creating communities with a collective vision:
- Communities where everyone’s voice is heard with no judgement;
- Communities where everyone feels welcomed and diversity of voice and experience is celebrated;
- Communities where neighbours know and help neighbours;
- Communities which come together to solve complex problems and improve the quality of life for each other to end poverty.
VSC-Cameroon have spend more than two decades supporting and empowering communities in Cameroon. This has been made possible through the following partners: Cameroon's Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, NOWEFOR, YYC JUNK and African Renaissance Ambassador and SPF.
The Early Days
VSC-Cameroon had been operating in Cameroon as a registered CIG (NW/GP/ 01/ 95/ 692) under the name The Women Self-Motivation Community Group since July 1995. A little over two decades, VSC-Cameroon has been empowering women through education and training especially in the agricultural sector.
Becoming Vibrant & Sustainable Communities (VSC) Cameroon
In 2014, VSC-Cameroon realized that its work had greatly shifted from empowering women to empowering communities as a whole. The organization`s programs had expanded to include; Health, Youths and Humanitarian programs. Thus there was a need to have a name that reflected it`s activities and programs.
The principal focus of VSC-Cameroon in the decades ahead is to Empower Communities to Overcome Poverty through establishing Community Economic Development (CED) Programs that communities will benefit from directly.
